Economic Empowerment, Financial Capabilities & Entrepreneurial Training

Updated: Mar 9

A strong partnership between several organizations including; Centro, African Community Education, African Cultural Communities Center, RIAC and LABO and Clark University.

In a collaborative fashion, Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito, working with Senator Mike Moore and Sonia Chang Diaz, as well as Representative Mary Keefe, established the Community Empowerment & Reinvestment Grant Program.

CENTRO, in partnership with Latin American Business Organization, Clark University’s DYME Institute, African Community Education, African Cultural and Community Center and Refugee and Immigrant Advocacy (RIAC); along with other supporting partners received a grant of $382,600 to provide Economic and Financial Empowerment Classes, First-time Home-buyer classes and counseling, along with Entrepreneurial Training and support, to historically economically disenfranchised communities, including those with a criminal history. Our collaborative approach to this work, aims at having lasting positive impact among the hardest hit as a consequence of this pandemic, who historically are economically disadvantaged to begin with.

Latinos, followed by other individuals of color suffered the hardest impact during this pandemic.

CENTRO, the city’s only minority-led multi-service non-profit and one of the city’s two remaining Neighborhood Centers, has teamed up with LABO, the DYME Institute and these other partners, to work collaboratively to produce real and measurable impact in the lives of our neighbors and clients.

This Monday, at 2:00PM, CENTRO, its collaborating partners, and some of the city’s elected and appointed officials will be having a check distribution ceremony and press event, to celebrate this important initiative.
